Journal of Women's Studies and Research in Iran and Muslim Countries

Farzaneh Quarterly started its publication in Iran in Autumn 1993, by a group of active women. When this quarterly commenced, the women's studies course was not designed in Iran, and there were not any other research magazines in Iran. In that time, the main objective wsa to create grounds for debate on women's issues and to draw the attention of researchers to focus and conduct research on related women issues. Since 1995, when Farzaneh Quarterly runners were involved in the national process of Beijing Conference on Women, they changed their focus towards development (gender mainstreaming in development) in Iran as well as the region. Farzaneh Quartely works hard to bring together the researchers on women's issues and publish their work, to contribute to the exsiting literature on women's issues, as well as to shape a network of researchers on women's studies. Farzaneh Quarterly pays attention to the challenges between unviversalism and cultural diveristy, and tries to realize the motto of "Think globally, Act locally".

Despite the fact that Farzaneh Quarterly has relations with non-governmental organizations, academic circles, and civil soceity organizations in Iran and other countries, it is an independent journal that is not associated with or financially dependent on any governmental or non-governmental organization. It should be added that Farzaneh Quarterly has had mutual projects with different centers and welcomes joint projects with other relevant organizations.

Farzaneh Quarterly publishes both English and Farsi papers. Before, most of the paprs were in Farsi, and there were few English papers. At the present time, the editor tries to maintain an equal proportion for each part. The Persian part is not the same as English part that is selected and edited according to its readers.

Farzaneh Quarterly Journal publishes articles and papers that explore the subject of women in the fields of science, culture and religion on the national, regional or international levels. Gradaully, Farzaneh editor decided to consider for each issue a specific topic. Each topic will be annoucned some months before the publication of Farzneh so that the researchers and those interested can contribute to each issue.
